It may not be excit­ing, adven­ture­some or even com­plete­ly home made, but veg­gie burg­ers are a wel­come and easy-to-pre­pare addi­tion to the din­ner rota­tion. It’s a kind of com­fort food, I guess, so we tend to dress them up with things like caramelized onions and cheese. As a man­u­fac­tured food, veg­gie burg­ers are some­thing we shop care­ful­ly for; genet­i­cal­ly-mod­i­fied soy is an ingre­di­ent in some brands and we avoid it. It take s a lit­tle research because man­u­fac­tur­ers don’t want you to know it’s there.

It is on our list of things we could be mak­ing our­selves, but that project has not been start­ed yet. Having had the expe­ri­ence of mak­ing veg­gie burg­ers at the Blossoming Lotus, we know it’s not as easy as it might sound to get the fla­vor and tex­ture right.

It total­ly does­n’t mat­ter that you can’t close the sand­wich with­out it near­ly col­laps­ing!
